Parent Responsibilities

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. It’s true, and together hopefully we can help your child become the best they can be. Here’s some ways to support and be involved in your child’s education:

At Home

  • Read to your child every night
  • Help them as needed with homework, but don’t do it for them!
  • Pack them healthy snacks for school
  • Teach them life skills, like tying their shoes, cleaning up their own messes, and zipping up their jackets

At School

  • Join PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Volunteer for field trips
  • Volunteer for special events, like Jog-a-thon
  • Show appreciation for those often overlooked: our amazing office manager, custodians, and specialist teachers like Music and Fine Arts, just to name a few.

A Severe Lack of Funding

You may notice that my classroom’s good looking: that’s due to a lot of help, inventiveness, and donations, not from the district.

Like most districts, CUSD provides teachers with almost zero supplies outside of textbooks, some paper, and the occasional box of tissues. No pencils, no glue, nothing. Parkview’s PTO provides what they can via fundraising, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed. Everyone knows teachers aren’t rolling in the dough either. Please help stock our classroom with what you can afford.

I plan to have an Amazon Wish List up soon, but supplies we are always in need of:

  • Ticonderoga #2 golf pencils (I always buy this brand, as it has the best erasers for the price. Golf pencils because the size is perfect for first graders)
  • Tissues
  • Band-aids
  • Hand soap
  • Picture books, used or new (Currently aiming for Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems and Dog Man series by Dave Pilkey, but anything is welcome)
  • Math manipulatives of all types
