Here at Parkview we hold high but achievable expectations and goals, both for behavior and academics.
Goals
At Parkview, we expect students to be kind to others, to follow the school rules, and to take responsibility for their choices — both the successes and the mistakes.
Positive Behavior Intervention Support
We use PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) at Parkview. Our school-wide rules are “Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible”. Research shows that recognizing and reinforcing students when they show positive behaviors has more of an impact than focusing on negative behavior. For this reason, we use Paw Bucks school wide to recognize and encourage positive student behavior. Students can turn in Paw Bucks at the Paw Buck store or one of the many Parkview events. Please review the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Handbook for more detailed information.
Discipline
Our classroom will follow the Parkview Behavior Chart from our PBIS team. When student behavior needs to be managed, students will first receive a verbal reminder. If the behavior continues, students will be asked to refocus in a quiet area in the classroom. If the behavior continues after their refocus, students will be asked to reset in a buddy classroom. Finally, if the behavior continues, students will be asked to refocus in the Wellness Center.
State Standards
According to California State Standards, your child should also reach several speaking and listening standards by the end of the year. A few of these include:
- Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
- Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
- Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
